Alexis and Travis

Catalina Island, California

If fate is bringing love together, not even if hurricanes can get in the way. For Alexis and Travis, hurricanes actually moved in their favor twice. Once on their wedding day, and once exactly 5 years before on the exact date. The first hurricane was hurricane Irma. Alexis and her friend decided within 24 hours of their plane departing to swap out Miami beaches with the California coast. This twist in fate set Alexis and Travis up to be at the same beach in the sunshine state at the same time. After a “meetcute” involving playing fetch with Travis’s Chihuahua, Phil, they hit it off and continued to cultivate a relationship long after her trip was over. Flash-forward exactly 5 years to their wedding day on Catalina Island, and a hurricane decided to remind them of how they were brought together to begin with.

Even though the hurricane definitely was not planned as a feature of the wedding, it became a significant component to the day. The ceremony began outside and the bridal party came together to hold umbrellas over the couple. As the rain came down harder, everyone moved under a pavilion where the guests stood around the couple as the ceremony continued. The unplanned benefit of having to move undercover from the hurricane was that Alexis and Travis got the unique and intimate experience of literally being surrounded by all of their loved ones while they exchanged vows. Everyone was soaked, but the joy emanating from Alexis and Travis was unphased.

There were so many locations that we had planned on taking pictures that we weren’t able to because of the weather, but everyone let go of the plan and let the day be what it was. We still managed to dance, get amazing pictures and enjoy the rest of the day. This wedding really shows that regardless of what goes “as planned”, a celebration of love cannot be stopped if you focus on what’s right in front of you. If rain on a wedding day is good luck- just think of what a hurricane means!

Rain or shine, your day is perfect.
